What is the Rite of this Sacrament?
Confirmation typically takes place just like a normal mass until after the gospel when the Presentation of the Candidates occurs. After the presentation is a brief homily and the renewal of our baptismal vows. The bishop invokes the Holy Spirit into the candidates through the laying on the hands in which the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are received. Each candidate is anointed by the bishop as he is saying, "(Your Confirmation name) be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit." Through the sacrament of Confirmation we are invited to become zealous soldiers of the Catholic faith.
